It comprises of Two words DIGITAL & MARKETING
DIGITAL involves wireless mediums and the internet.
While as MARKETING is an act of promoting & selling of products or services, including market research & advertising, so
“Digital marketing is a technique which involves the use of electronic devices or the internet for creating Awareness, Consideration, Loyalty & Purchases for a brand, product or of a service.”
Businesses use digital channels such as search engines, email, social media, and websites to connect to current and prospective customers.
History Of Digital Marketing (Advertising).
- In 1993, the first clickable banner went live, after which HotWired purchased a few banner ads for their advertising. Which marked the start and evolution of the Digital Marketing Era.
- 1994 the year of technological improvisation setup for digital space. Yahoo came into existence in the same year ( Launch of YAHOO.COM).
- 1996 this year some more search engines were launched like HotBot, LookSmart, & the Alexa. Double Click, First Reporting Platform For Banner Ads was launched & CPM came into existence.
- 1997 onwards PopUp Ads took over the internet.
- 1998 Google Came into existence, Microsoft launched MSN search engine and Yahoo came out with Yahoo Web Search.
- 1999 GOTO.COM introduced pay-for -placement on bids
- 2000 sensing an opportunity Google launched Google Adwords which are paid Ads by google shown on the top of the search or on the right side.
- Two years later the internet bubble burst and the smaller search engines were left behind or vanished and they brought more space for the tech giants.
- In the Year 2006, the Digital Marketing saw its first steep surge when the search engine traffic was reported 6.4 billion in a one month.
- Microsoft launched Live Search by putting MSN on the backside to compete with Yahoo & Google.
- Soon Social networking sites began to emerge which become the most important means of promotions and considerations.
- MySpace the first social networking site which was followed by facebook
- 2007 social media advertising with the launch of Facebook pages
- 2010 native advertising and sponsored stories.
- Most of the companies realized the new entrants in the digital space are opening the new opportunities for them to market and promote their products at a very large scale, it not only they opened the fresh avenues but created more opportunities for their businesses.
